When joining Zoom, you have the option of joining 'with' or 'without' video. If you join 'without,' myself and others will see only your name. Inhibiting video is completely acceptable and I have used this feature myself on occasion. There is something fun though about joining with video as it can add to the 'community' feel of the practice. This is becoming increasingly valued as COVID prolongs our isolation from others.
For 'Get on your Throne!' you need a chair, preferably one which does not have arms. However if you wish to sit on your couch, comfy recliner, or a chair with arms that is perfectly fine! You just may need to modify a bit during practice.
For 'Strengthen, Lengthen, Flourish!' and 'Reach for the Stars!' a yoga mat on a hard floor is preferable, but NOT REQUIRED. As an alternative, a firm carpet or rug is just fine! If you are practicing outside and don't have a yoga mat.....if on a deck or concrete, a large towel will suffice and keep a pillow handy in case its more comfy for the back of your head. Also practicing on the lawn is fun, just try to find a flat patch and understand you may be more wobbly in the balancing poses.
If possible, please refrain from wearing shoes and/or socks. We access the strength in all parts of our feet to improve balance and shoes and socks restrict mobility. Shirts should have a relatively close-fit as fabric hanging down while in some inverted poses can impede vision. If you are outside and its' chilly, fine to start off with an outer layer such as zip-up hoodie which may be removed as we warm up. Wear yoga pants, shorts, or knit pants if possible - no skirts or dresses. Rule of thumb is just wear what is most comfortable for you and will not restrict mobility.
Your child's witnessing of your wellness regimen can have lasting inspirational effects on them. They are absolutely welcome to observe your practice! But these classes are designed only for those age 16 and up, so no younger participants please. "Kids Yoga' is an entirely separate type of yoga for important reasons. Please contact me if you would like to discuss a separate 'Kids Yoga' or 'Family Yoga' class.
All participants need to consult their physician before commencing a yoga practice.
If you feel pain, gently come out of the pose and assume a resting pose (which will be explained in class). If a pose is painful it means it is not right for your body and must be skipped. There are thousands of yoga poses - all poses are not meant for all bodies
